Shifting Paradigms on Drones for Environmental Resilience

Drones (or unmanned aerial systems, UAS) have become versatile platforms and tools for remote monitoring of the environment and Earth surface. Drones are also being increasingly used in many other civilian applications such as aerial photography and videography, public safety, search and rescue, utility management, and disaster response.

With support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through the “Project for Improving National Capacities for Management of Sargassum”, the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES) is hosting the inaugural Caribbean Drone Symposium. The Symposium showcases trends in:

  • Drone technology, policies and regulations.
  • Applications and best practices for environmental resilience.
  • Challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurship and enterprises in the Caribbean.
